Kol Tribal Festivals

The biggest festival of the Kol tribals is the Singbonga festival, which reflects the cultural richness and traditions of the Kol tribe. The Kol tribe is a proto-Australoid community that is mainly found in the central and eastern regions of India, especially in states like Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Assam.

Another significant festival, the Karam Festival is celebrated to honor the Karam tree deity. It is observed during the months of August or September, coinciding with the sowing season. People dance around the Karam tree, singing traditional songs and seeking prosperity and fertility.

Baha is another important festival celebrated by the Kol tribe, especially in the Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand. It is celebrated to worship the bamboo god and seek blessings for a prosperous life.

Singhbonga

 

Singhbonga is the supreme deity of Kol tribals. Singbonga is called the creator of the universe. Singbonga is made up of two words where Singh means Sun and Bonga means God. This is worshiped by the Kol tribals so that happiness, peace and prosperity comes in their lives. Singhbonga worshiped is not only by Kol people but also by other tribal people of Kol-Ho, Bhumij, Santhal, Munda, Asur, Birhor, etc. tribes. Singhbonga worshiped celebrate today in many states of India including Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.
